The annual Wine on the Roof event benefits ELPO — Eastlake Pet Orphanage.
The eighth annual Wine on the Roof event at Eastlake Veterinary Hospital May 9 benefitted ELPO — Eastlake Pet Orphanage. ELPO was established as a wing of the hospital to serve homeless dogs and cats who would otherwise be euthanized.
Wine on the Roof is a posh-and-nosh on the roof of the clinic, elegantly adorned to look more like an Italian garden than an animal exercise area. An extensive silent auction raises funds for ELPO while gourmet foods are served.
This year's caterer, Tangiloos, did an excellent pairing of foods and wines from Geoff Gerard such as beef and blue cheese quesadillas with Smoking Loon's 2007 Cali cabernet sauvignon and Ballatore Cali sparkling spumante with chocolate-dipped strawberries. Café Lago sponsored the tea-totaller's beverages.
The 2009 show included a "Project Runaway" type canine fashion show featuring adopted and adoptable pets from ELPO. Katherine Valdez's Peter strutted in Calvin Whine, and Leah Quintero's Jif was bold in Fleas Saint Laurent.
Possibly our favorite designer was Tommy Holedigger, who outfitted Bert and Ernie, adopted by the Shahans and Ester Howard. The custom canine fashions were created by Texas Tarts, Christy Robinson designs, Poisoned Creations, Harrilu, the Squid Ink Collective, MT Designs, and Jeho.
