Michael and Susan Langley called on more than 40 of their artistic friends to help out with the first White Rock Arts Faire last weekend. They responded.

Langley said the event drew about 1,500 people.

This year, the arts faire raised about $5,000 for the primary beneficiary — For the Love of the Lake, the great organization with the silly acronym, and its volunteers.

"It was supported," Langley said. "I couldn't believe how it was supported. We had the best turnout ever. People came from everywhere."

The faire, staged officially by Langley's Fairefather events, stretched across two days at the church. It featured the work of 44 local artists, who displayed paintings, pottery, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, textiles, mixed-media pieces, leather work, and sculptures. Each artist contributed an original piece to the silent auction as well.
