The new Whole Foods Market Lakewood reported its first theft since opening in March.
An off-duty Dallas police officer who works at the store stopped James Grossman, 62, as he was leaving the premises allegedly without paying for groceries.
“Whole Foods Market hires off-duty police officers to work in our security department, and our officer was on duty at that time,” said Karen Luken, the store’s spokeswoman.
The alleged shoplifting theft at the store took place about 4 p.m. July 27, a rainy Monday.
Among the items allegedly purloined were two bags of pralines, 12 ounces of coffee, a box of crackers, a bag of string cheese, sugar, and a bag of flour. The total value of all items allegedly stolen was $22.
Grossman was issued a citation and a criminal trespass warning and then let go. We’re not exactly talking a ruthless cartel here.
