Dignitaries and local celebrities turned out earlier this month at Lakehill Preparatory School to christen the new Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center.
The center, located at the Roger L. Perry Campus, backs up to 43 acres of city of Dallas floodplain that Lakehill is able to use for exploration, building trails, and studying plant- and wildlife. The center also earned LEED Silver Certification as established by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Among the dignitaries were Mayor Tom Leppert, District 9 Councilman Sheffie Kadane, sportscaster Gina Miller — a graduate of Lakehill — and philanthropist Charles Wyly. Those affiliated directly with Lakehil included Headmaster Roger Perry, Chairman Brent Rosenthal, Anne Waldie — who donated a tree — Tom Allen, and, of course, the Alice and Erle Nye family.
Erle Nye called the center a fitting end to his 35 years of involvement at Lakehill. Leppert proclaimed it Science Center Day in Dallas.
Perry summed up the meaning of the new science center to Lakehill when he said the school now really does have a lake and a hill, which kind of completes the circle.
