Woodrow Wil... you know what this is.
Not too many octogenarians play starring roles in movies. Woodrow Wilson High School, though, is no ordinary 80-year old.
The iconic community school receives red-carpet treatment starting with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., Sept. 24 at Lakewood Theater. The international premiere of DVDs “80 Years of Woodrow” and “80th Celebration” follow the reception.
The two documentaries started as one film focusing on the 80th anniversary weekend in April. The video committee — class of 1967 graduates Mike Barnes, Kathy Kilmer Moak, Charlie Taylor, Kelley Geary Burks, Gregg Hill, Paul Wood, and Jay Ballou — soon realized they had too much historical material to squeeze onto on disc.
The project then became two DVDs — one covering the rich history of Woodrow, the extraordinary people, the stories, and intangibles; the other on the anniversary weekend, including the parade, open house, Hall of Fame inductions, and barbecue-and-bands bash at Eddie Deen’s.
