When you say the name Deva Premal, most people stare blankly and blink — then after a few moments, "Oh, the lady from yoga class."

That's where most people become acquainted with the music of Deva Premal, known as the queen of chant in many circles. That may change after Sep. 17 when the German mantra singer, her partner Miten, and special guest Manose perform at the Lakewood Theater.

Earth Rhythms, a nonprofit group spurred from the volunteers who put together the annual Winter SolstiCelebration, has lured Deva Premal and Miten to Lakewood. According to Amy Martin, concert promoter, East Dallas was the only place for the show in the city.

"I love the idea that Lakewood Theater is so lovely and historical. You just can't put her someplace on Greenville," Martin said.
