Bird Photography Pro Educates and Entertains

J. R. Compton is an infinitely patient man. I can tell just by glancing through his wonderful and amazing bird photos in The Addlepated Birder's Journal. All taken at White Rock Lake and environs. I can tell that he's patient by looking at these photos. He's also prolific. He told me recently that he had taken four hundred photos already that day--and we were meeting for morning coffee.

Saturday morning, Compton shared his love of birds and mastery of photography as he led a free public bird walk as part of the Bath House Cultural Center's 25th anniversary celebration.

About a dozen area residents--bearing cameras, binoculars, and birding books--gathered behind the Bath House as the sun came up. The bird-watchers were rewarded with a beautiful morning and an assortment of White Rock birds, including ducks, herons, and egrets.

Compton talked about birds (about which he confesses not to be an expert) and photographing birds (which he does extraordinarily well). Mostly the group enjoyed the morning and spent their time quietly watching the graceful egrets and listening to the laughing ducks.

Often overheard among the bird-watchers: "We are so lucky to have this place."

In addition to The Addlepated Birder's Journal, Compton also publishes DallasArtsRevue.com. Check it out for extensive "news, views, and reviews" of the Dallas art scene.
