Sailing White Rock

When I think about White Rock Lake, I naturally think of sailboats moving across the water. I have been an admirer of the boats for several years now, but my knowledge of the boats and the sport was limited to appreciating their beauty and knowing where the dock was.

On a recent weekend morning while enjoying the beauty of the lake, I decided to venture to the Corinthian Sailing Club. As calm as the shoreline is all around the lake, there was definitely something special in the breeze when I stepped out onto the docks of the Corinthian Sailing Club (CSC). After a visit with Club Commodore, Greta Mittman, I understood the appeal of the Club even more.

Nearly 70 years of sailing

The Corinthian Sailing Club formed in 1939 and is one of four sailing clubs that have operated at White Rock since the first club was founded in 1928. Only one other club, White Rock Boat Club, is currently active. Corinthian Sailing Club is currently comprised of over 300 members, some of whom have been active since the 1930s and 1940s. Mittman noted that the membership is comprised of every level of sailor—beginning boatsmen to national and world champions.
