Woodrow's big shindig Saturday involves multiple events, people, and memories. But you can't just throw all that stuff together and hope it works.
So the organizers laid out a fairly precise schedule to help revelers plan their morning, afternoon, and night.
Here ya go:
The parade, led by Grand Marshal Carroll Shelby, rolls at 10:15 a.m. April 25 from the Wells Fargo building on the neighborhood's skyline. Before all that rolling can start, though, a few preliminary events have to take place.
Parade check-in starts at 8 a.m. Planners ask that vehicular traffic be kept to a minimum so individuals and groups walking in the parade should be dropped off at the parade trailhead. People driving a vehicle or float should congregate near the oil change and lube shop near the Gaston Avenue-Abrams Parkway intersection. Bring a valid driver's license and proof of insurance document. Bring float riders along — there's that keeping vehicles to a minimum thing.
Some rules: install handrails on the floats, have a 1-to-1 ratio of kids to adults, don't throw candy, beads, or trinkets from the floats, and don't drink alcohol. It is a little early in the day.
The parade goes from the Alderson Street-La Vista Drive intersection, southeast to Abrams Road, south to Glasgow Drive, where is takes a left turn toward and ends at Woodrow. Need more parade information? E-mail the organizing committee.
The pep rally starts at 9:20 a.m. at the bank building and features the school band, cheerleaders, and usual pep-rally suspects.
Classrooms and doors to nostalgia open inside Woodrow at 10 a.m. The Hall of Fame inductions begin at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium, and the doors close at 4 p.m. The Woodrow Athletic Booster Club will be on hand to sell burgers, hot dogs, and drinks.
We now conclude the campus portion of the day's entertainment and move on to the nighttime party.
The Alumni Band and Round-up Party kicks off at 7 p.m. at Eddie Deen's Ranch. Eight bands — all with one or more Woodrow alum — perform that night, which includes a barbecue dinner, cash bar, and raffle chances at a 2009 Smart Car for Two. Six hundred tickets, priced at $100 each, will be sold and the winner announced at the party.
Advance tickets, if there are any left, cost $35 each. Tickets at the door go up to $45. You can buy tickets here or here, or mail a check, payable to WWHSAA, to 1920 Abrams Parkway, No. 201, 75214. Seriously, if we have to tell you that address is in Dallas you probably have no business going to the Woodrow anniversary party.
Still need more information? E-mail these folks. I'm out.
