Mary Poss gave the welcome to the 2009 Teacher of the Year award recipients during the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Lakehill's Nye Environmental Science Center.

Deborah Waring and Brenda Bazan of Special World Yoga talked about their work with special-needs children. Bazan discussed success stories they achieved with disabled children through their work with schools and private clients.

Roger Perry, headmaster of Lakehill Preparatory School gave the awards presentation. Six area teachers claimed this year’s top honors, with Lakehill placing two to lead the way.

Israel Rivera of Mount Auburn Elementary School gained recognition as best public elementary school teacher. Heather Hopper of Lakehill won elementary school teacher among private schools.

In the middle school bracket, Joseph Selvog of W.H. Gaston Middle School and Linda Booth of Lakehill claimed the honors in the public and private, respectively, categories.
