The Lakehill Preparatory School community put its collective best foot forward during the 11th annual Trek for Tech Oct. 7.
Perfect running weather added to the appeal of the event. A record number of runners participated in the trek, a 5K race to raise money for technological equipment for the school.
The lower school choir officially opened the event, followed by the varsity cheerleaders, who led participants in some pre-race warm-up activities.
The fun run kicked off the morning as students, families, and faculty members took to the streets. A crowd hit the pavement for the 5K chip-timed race that followed the fun run.
Athletes of all ages raced for the right to claim victory in their particular age groups. Younger fans lined the streets as runners approached the finish line.
As the racers finished, participants enjoyed food, drinks, and a live performance by Lakehill's own Marsyas Redemption. Band members Alex Gilbert, Hagen Hauschild, Adam Jilek, Austin Simpson, and Spence Sandfield fired up the crowd.
An awards ceremony followed the performance. All participants received a medal with trophies presented for the 5K. For official race results, click here.
The new course was a big success as was online registration.
Registration for the event increased nearly 20 percent over last year, with 432 people registered, including 173 Lakehill students.
The second grade won the Trek Spirit Contest with 72 percent participation. They receive a pizza party as a reward for their over-the-top spirit. Third, fourth, and fifth grades were close behind, with each reporting more than 50 percent participation.
The Ellis family took home the top prize in the raffle, winning both ice cream and the trek bicycle.
The trek committee projects that all of the wish-list goals for the Environmental Science Center and the Hillside campus will be met. Specific details will be provided in the next PFC general meeting.
