A rash of daring daytime burglaries in the Hollywood-Santa Monica neighborhood is making residents see red and feel under siege.
Since the beginning of November, five homes have been burglarized in the neighborhood. Two homes were ransacked on Nov. 5, a third on Nov. 10, a fourth on Nov. 11, and the latest on Nov. 16.
According to the Hollywood-San Monica Neighborhood Association, the Dallas Police Department will soon deploy more than 60 officers to patrol the neighborhood, along with other parts of town undergoing similar crime waves, 24 hours a day to crackdown on burglars.
Dallas police confirmed today that it is indeed launching Operation Impact in the Hollywood-Santa Monica neighborhood to address the spike in burglaries and other crime in the area. A number of police officers, some of them undercover, are taking part in the crackdown, police said.
Besides regular police patrols, the HSMNA also hires off-duty officers to patrol the area. The neighborhood is one of several East Dallas communities that participate in the Dallas Police Department’s Expanded Neighborhood Patrol program.
