The ensemble cast kicks it during "Hey Big Spender."
Lakehill Preparatory School Performing Arts students recently presented an original musical revue titled “On Broadway.”
A musical fantasy that offered something for everyone, the show featured more than 20 musical numbers centered around three group performances. Medleys from Rogers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and “Hairspray” were supplemented with individual favorites.
The show featured songs such as "Greased Lightning" from “Grease,” "Big Spender" from “Sweet Charity,” and other solos and duets from musicals as diverse as “Pippin,” “A Secret Garden,” and “Miss Saigon.”
This extravaganza of music and professionally choreographed dance put the spotlight on Lakehill's talented students.
"This year's revue format allowed our students to shine both individually and as an ensemble,” said Elizabeth Schmit, Lakehill’s theater instructor. “Working with professional choreographers was great preparation for real-world theater and allowed them to stretch themselves as performers."
Lakehill's original revue featured musical direction by Tracy Herron and stage direction by Elizabeth Schmitt. Kimberly Adele and Dylan Keith arranged the choreography, with lighting design by Ed Schmitt.
Thirty-four upper school students performed in the musical with an additional 10 students serving on the crew. Guest appearances from the middle school choir and auction winners Ben and Greg Gillman added to the event.
