According to the Dallas ISD, various neighborhood schools will lose from one to nine faculty or staff members in the pending layoffs that will result from a districtwide budgeting shortfall.
Woodrow Wilson High School stands to lose nine people, J.L. Long Middle School will have seven open positions, Stonewall Jackson Elementary School will lose three staffers, and Lakewood and Robert E. Lee elementary schools will be down one member each.
Woodrow PTA President Emily Martin earlier today put out a call for volunteers to help take on some of the responsibilities opening up because of the staff reductions. Starting Oct. 20, schools will need volunteers to help monitor hallways and cafeterias, and serve in counselors offices.
Volunteers can chip in for full or partial days. People interested in helping the community schools can fill out online application forms. Volunteer positions also are available for Spanish speaking people.
Volunteers interested in helping out at Woodrow also should notify Dinnah Escanilla.

JL Long Principal, Danielle Petters has also asked for parent volunteers to help out the office staff by answering phones and other clerical duties. Additional eyes are needed for lunch duty and after lunch on the blacktop. If you'd like to volunteer, fill out the online application, then sign in at the front of the school with the staff.
We are all behind our devoted staff at our neighborhood schools!!

This is a very sad day - I am very angry. I want to hear from Jack Lowe about why the Woodrow SBDM plan to cut 10% of the school budget to avoid layoffs was rejected. Instead we must fire teachers.
We shall survive this; we've survived many things over 80 years. We can do our part by volunteering to help out as thanks for all the wonderful teachers who have influenced our lives.
